https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMynlk7KhXs

I have been wanting to learn how to draw otaku art for a while and Im thinking of finally getting serious. After watching a few tutorials and trying things out Im really lost on how I should progress because at first I was just thinking of following a few videos but good ones are hard to find. Im not looking for "How to get good fast" tips, just normal advice, I know ill suck ass for years, maybe forever. Please share any good channels or recommendations you have on learning how to draw! I have linked a video I liked, sadly he doesnt make tutorials.

>>

This Proko's video on gesture was a game changer for me when I was starting, once you understand gesture your drawings will actually feel alive:

>>1701 I will try to keep consistent, tho I have always had a hard time following through with stuff so Im a bit afraid how long I can keep it up. >>1702 Thanks hikarin for the great video, Ill try it out.

>>

It's all about learning the foundations first and being on the grind as much as possible. Then learning how to draw specific muscle groups. Focus on a few things at first like understanding the different perspectives, git gud at drawing 3d objects without perspective grids with rotating cubes and practicing gestures. Once you feel comfortable at one of the above switch it out for another like practicing drawing in proportion instead of practicing perspectives. I'm still learning so I don't have many recommendations but there is a lot of videos I watched and stuff to learn that only wasted my time so I'll give you some that are actually helpful. For perspective I found these videos most helpful:

>>1706 Thanks hikarin. I will check the videos out, right now Im trying to learn how to properly sketch a head and facial features. After 46 attempts its slowly getting better, at first they looked like a 5 year olds doodles.

>>

if you're a complete beginner, then I would suggest not watching any videos or instructional stuff for now. Just draw a lot and have fun. The basics of learning to draw, in terms of mechanical skill, is to break out of symbol drawing, learn any method of construction that works for you, learn how to work with light, and how to compose an image. there's a lot to learn when it comes to drawing. Anatomy is a complicated topic, gesture is something you'd study and never really stop studying. Another thing is that youtube videos are made for entertainment, not really education. (Look up hampton's analytical anatomy series to see what I mean. That's a formal university lecture right there.) A question i often asked was, "where is this youtuber getting their knowledge?" it's better to go straight to the source in that case, rather than rely on regurgitated information. I think the best way for someone to start out is to simply copy anime drawings or manga panels they like without thinking too hard about it. If you keep at it, you'll naturally find challenges, which might make you ask more pointed questions like "why do my drawings look so flat?" rather than generalized ones like, "what can I do to improve?" In my own case, I would compare my drawings to finished works of artists I liked, and try to see where I was falling short. In my opinion, there's only two types of useful study material posted by other people on the internet; process videos and completed drawings. I know you said you weren't looking for suggestions on how to get good fast, but I have a lot to say on the opinion of art education, so I can't help but type a lot. I took a look at various art curriculums for animation, illustration, concept art, etc, and from what I found most of these programs stress perspective as the most important thing. before learning to draw the body, most places would put you through the basics of perspective first. It makes sense, since you won't be able to draw a natural looking pose without understanding the concept of foreshortening. However, getting comfortable with drawing in a way where you are depicting forms in 3D space believably will not come with just a basic understanding of vanishing points. Anyway, a generalized art school curriculum would probably be something like: Term 1: -Intro to perspective -Exercises for penmenship and stability -Still life exercises and drawing from life (Texts: drawing on the right side of the brain, perspective made easy, scott robertson's how to draw - but just the penmenship exercises) Term 2: -Advanced perspective -Constructing vehicles and mechanical objects -Background drawing (Scott Robertson's how to draw, Erik Olson's perspective for artists) Term 3: -Intro to gesture -Intro to figure drawing -Intro to construction (Loomis's figure drawing books. You can't get better than this, really.) From there you'd go on to your second year, where you'd probably split off and start learning what you're actually studying. There's an infinite amount of resources to pick from afterwards to learn about anatomy and painting, though I personally think anatomy for sculptors and alla prima are the go to books. I use anatomy books as reference texts, looking up muscle groups after I sketch out a figure to see what I'm working with. If you're going to draw anime girls, you obviously don't need to know about the teres major/minor and the infraspinatus individually, though you would need to be aware of the serratus and the external obliques. At the end of the day, anime is drawn the way it is as a simplification, but it's very hard to simply something if you don't know what it is you're trying to simplify. Also, a lot of instructional content on the internet is structured for observational drawing, not drawing from your imagination.

As an absolute outsider whats the best way to get into Touhou? I only know some of the charaters from memes but nothing outside of that and that needs to be changed. They are cute tho, in spite of not knowing what she is like I think suika is cute.

I started by playing all the games in order, although most people will probably want to skip the first 5 games. If danmaku is not your thing, there are mangas, albums, and an infinitude of fan content, I think everyone likes Touhou for a different reason, so you just need explore and find what you like.

>>1712 play one of the games, one of the fangames, read one of the many many doujin works, fanfics, or really anything that would endear you the universe the games take place in the music is good too - unless you dislike midi trumpets, then it might not be for you i got into the games from newgrounds remixes of some of touhou 8's boss themes, then a slew of ao3 fics taking place in the games' universe, before i finally bothered with any of the shmups. maybe give #7 or #8 a go, solely because they're my favourites that aren't hard to the point of frustration. shift to focus, z to shoot and x to bomb - think fast don't die, maybe you'll find them fun anyhow there's a nyaa torrent with each of the english patched games in it, plus the first 5 pc98 games, if you're so inclined. just pick one and try to beat it

>>

Touhou 6 EoSD is the first game I started with. Then after hearing the music of Mountain of Faith (Touhou 10) I started playing that too. I was there more for the music rather than the gameplay since I got bored of Touhou after only 2 games in the series. That being said, the music and Japanese mythology make it worth it to play. (I couldn't give two shits about the whole lore though, that's for the fandom to care about - not the people who actually play the games).

I went to shoot some guns today. Do you like shooting guns, hikarin? I shot my 9mm handgun today to freshen up for a work training I have tomorrow, but I've also recently shot a couple different AR's in .556 as well as a Henry lever action in .308.

Your fortune: (YOU ARE BANNED)

>>

>>10600 Yes they have someone on probation moving in that can't be around firearms. Most of them are boring old shotguns. But some interesting stuff was in the pile. Like a .22lr SAA Colt pistol with a 9-inch barrel. The pump action rifle that doesn't have magazine with it. I need to see if they have it because the ones online are going for $100+ for a 4 round mag. There was an old starting pistol in the pile with 500 blanks. Plus they dumped a huge box on ammo on me as well of various calibers. Oh an two French Berthier rifles that pre-date WW2 as far as I can tell. But one is missing the hand gaurds and someone stole the butt plate off the other one. The owner said they ended up in police evidence for awhile when he got robbed and they came back missing all those parts. So I'm guessing someone there knew what they were and robbed the parts for their own gun. I'd like to restore them but last I checked the parts would be pretty high. Just getting clips is expensive then I'd have to make ammo on top of that. The little Colt pistol is worth $1k+. So the internet says. I need a bigger safe.

>>

Colt .22lr pistol with that comically large barrel was really fun. I pulled it out of my pants like Joker in the old 80s batman movie and made my friend laugh. Starting pistol was really fun too. Fired it at a target 3 times and pretended to be angry that I kept missing. Handed it to my friend. They got really mad that they couldn't hit anything with it. They still think it's a legit .22 and not an over engineered cap gun. Tomorrow I going to try out the .25auto pistol that was in the pile and make sure one of the 12 gauge shotguns is functioning. The shotgun had about 30 years of dust caked all over it so the action wouldn't move at first. But a quick cleaning job and oiling freed it up.

>>

>>10631 https://youtu.be/ZJ1s-1eAoh8?feature=shared&t=242 I hadn't thought about this scene in years. Also why does the captcha suddenly have to be filled in every post and why does it keep making me select the drunken 2hu?

>>

Instead of bragging about my good fortune only I'll contribute something maybe worthwhile. I've been shooting for a long time now. Was just part of everyone's childhood where I grew up. I've been trying to get better at various things now that I have access to good information through the internet instead of dumb lore passed around by big talkers in the local gun store or idiots that think they know everything. It wasn't until a few years ago that I got my first red dot and finally learned how to shoot with both eyes open with iron sights. No one ever taught me how and no one I knew IRL ever did that. My shot placement has improved a ton since I trained myself how to do it. I was a decent shot already but now I'm faster. I can find the sights much faster and it greatly improved my groups with pistols and other short barreled firearms. I mostly shoot .22lr because it's so cheap and I have a ton of it. Stocked up after the last shortage back whenever that happened under Obama and .22lr vanished for a year or so. A Remington 550-1 is the firearm I use most often. Does most everything I need and it's cheaper to shoot than most of my other rifles. I like to practice lobbing in long range shots at a local creek. I throw aluminum cans in the water off of a bridge and take shots at them as they float away. Once they get really far out I have to lob shots in with open sights. Doing this over water helps because I can see how far off I'm missing. Grandfather taught me that trick a long time ago. He said it was how he learned.

>>

>>10633 (cont.) I carry a nothing special 9mm auto every day. I'm decent enough shot with it. I don't shoot it as often as I should. I keep wanting to replace it with something else in 10mm or .45 but I can't justify the cost of replacing it. It's a cheap beater gun and I'm okay with that because if I ever have to use it for its intended purpose I know law enforcement will take it away and I'll probably never see it again. I got a good deal on it years ago. They've doubled in price since I purchased it brand new. Internet says the trigger is horrible and you have to do $200+ worth of mods to it to make it worth having. All lies in my experience. It's a really good gun and the trigger is fine. I like the fact that it isn't a hair trigger and has a lot of take up. I've ended up with a lot of firearms over the last 10 years because people die and leave them to me. I have an M1 Garand that's a lot of fun but I'd hate to lug the damn thing around everyday. But as a certain Russian said it's reliable and heavy. Heavy is good. You can always hit them over the head with it. I have a bunch of black tip 30-06 that came with it and tons of clips. I keep it in the safe ready to go in case the zombies come. I got an M1 Carbine with it but I gave it to my father since he likes those. I'll end up getting it back at some point. I have an AR in 5.56mm too of course. I bought a bunch of 20 round mags for it a few years ago. Since they're better when in the prone. I mounted a cheap red dot on it and a good backup iron sight. I don't shoot it that often since I'd rather carry the 550-1 and .22lr is cheaper. Plus it doesn't hurt as much if you take a shot without ears on. Which I have to do all of the time. It'd take too long to go over everything I have but most of them are old break open shotguns in various calibers. I have a few pumps and an automatic as well. I still have my first real gun. A .410 shotgun which I killed my first deer with as a boy. I have a lot of firearms for someone that doesn't consider themself a gun nut. People just keep dropping them off here like they're stray cats. Most of the ones I'm interested in buying are too expensive now. Wish I'd got a FAL kit and an SKS when those were dirt cheap. Same for a decent AK. I'd really like to get a black powder kit. Probably a flint lock. But I keep putting it off. Can't justify spending money on this hobby when I rarely shoot anything for fun as it is. They're mostly just tools to me. I don't understand or associate with the range fags. They're weird.

>>

Eh, as a UK netizen I'm honestly not too worried. Our government does not understand what a computer is, and all of its prior forays into teh intarwebs have failed and been quietly swept under the rug. For example our previous prime minister made a big song and dance about his intent to replace our money with a cryptocurrency called "Britcoin" which has obviously since been completely forgotten about. Basically if you can crack a torrented copy of Photoshop without burning your house down then you're twelve steps ahead of Westminster when it comes to the Internet. And f it does come to the Great British Firewall, the hard work has already been done for us by our Chinese friends, who have 30 years of experience in evading technofascist surveillance and have gotten so good at it that the CCP has pretty much given up on trying to stop them. I'm sure they won't mind us borrowing their tools lol. (hopefully this shit will lead to there being far fewer people online and monolithic SNS "platforms" not being as omnipresent in the '30s as they have been in the '20s since the people mainly affected by these "child safety measures" are riajuu...) neco_dance

hi. this post is meant for LOAfags only, posting to make certain things clear. if u dont know what that is then these aren't meant for your eyes. circumstances make me unable to post on 'usual places people go'. to start, u have to understand the POV of God. for God everything is and is not happening all at once, no time, no place, all in non-comprehendible infinity, it's all already happened, just ARE (thus, "I AM" is also "I AM All") from the minutest to largest, most horrid to most beautiful. say this realm we think we are in is in some kind of void. then God simply imagine "well i wanna make a small separate realm that's a small garden and fill with 5 wooden people" and he decided it then poof it's there in that void, and here's the important part, TO God both of these are now equally REAL (why wouldn't it be?). that garden isn't less real than our realm, it's equally REAL (thus, neither, nondually, realness as concept itself ceases). Understand! the thing with LOAfags "manifestors" is that they're human in this specific "earth realm" thus they came pre-programmed since birth forced by their own earth-being birth to see everything in a SCALE HIERARCHY OF REALNESS ("is that true?? veritas heh. what is veritas? only earth's shit). when they wake up from sleep they automatically think "oh that was just a dream now i go on with REAL life" this earth-being self programming forced them to separate things in hierarchy of supposed "realness" (because earth's creature-consciousness NEEDS it for survival etc). BUT TO GOD THERE'S NO SUCH THINGS AND CAN'T. Concept of "Real" doesn't even exist to God. everything simply just already ARE, already happened infinitely in infinity, nothing excluded, thus the VERY concept of "realness or less real" doesn't EVEN exist to GOD, no one thing can be somehow 'less' than another to HIM.

If you've ever seen the whole weird magical "manifesting"/"LOA" thing on internet here and there, this Neville guy is where it all started. People who are into this thing is all over the internet, 4chan, reddit, tumblr, just type LOA or 'manifestation' and you'll find them easily. But Neville is the core of it all.

ohayou hikarins! as you can tell, the site rewrite is live! isn't it great? the dev team put lots of work and lots of love into this project so let's be sure to give them our thanks. in this thread, please report any issues, bugs, comments, questions, or concerns regarding the new site. i will also take the time to highlight some of the major changes and additions since Syrno is a lazy fuck refrained from doing so in the announcement. note that the rules have been updated, so be sure to give them another read. New Additions: - new imageboard software! as stated in the announcement, Hikari3 has changed from using Lynxchan to Koshi, a new imageboard software made in-house. the source code can be found here: https://github.com/hikari3-ch/koshi (that is, once the repo is made public). this in itself comes with many improvements, especially under the hood. i'm just a janny so i'm not qualified to list them all, but i can assure you Koshi is pretty great. - new and improved homepage! the homepage has been updated with a few new features. the new layout includes a new Featured Threads section, which is pretty self explanatory. hand-picked by (usually) Syrno. at the bottom, there is also an Other Threads section, which will randomly select threads from the SFW boards to showcase. 素敵ですね? - new 2D Ero board! a new board has been added for 2D ero images, aka hentai. please be sure to read the rules. note that posts made on this board do not appear in the Latest Posts or Other Threads section on the homepage. this board has been added in place of the Oekaki board, but don't worry! the ability to create your own masterpieces lives on. i'll talk about this later. - board statistics! https://files.catbox.moe/ewber2.PNG you can now check the board statistics, a panel that shows activity for each board. this can be found through the button directly to the left of the "Submit a Thread" button on the sidebar. - upgraded posting! https://files.catbox.moe/ltv2gv.PNG there are a few new options and QOL improvements in the posting menu. for one, you can now make new posts from the bottom of the thread. the quick reply panel also now has the emote dropdown menu for your convenience. the "Submit a Thread" button at the top of the sidebar will bring you to a new thread page where you can more elaborately create threads. using either the new thread page or the reply section at the bottom of the thread gives you the option to embed YouTube videos, create polls, and draw your own images! oekaki reborn on every board! - new CSS themes! there are some new CSS themes to spice up your browsing experience beyond the standard hikari3 color palette. feel free to check them out! i personally am using Catppuccin Macchiato. beyond this, there are other new features and changes for you to discover. we hope you enjoy the new site! happy posting.

hey Hikarins. i want to talk about alternative browsers: which ones you like, which ones you dislike, which ones you think are interesting, whatever. we all know about Ungoogled Chromium, Librewolf and Pale Moon, so although discussion of those browsers is fine, i really wanna see some niche stuff. bonus points for browsers that function on the modern web or browsers that have weird designs or usecases. this is also a good opportunity to talk about projects that push away from Google's domination of the browser market through Chromium and their proxy Mozilla. my browser to start this thread is Basilisk. used to be owned by the Male Poon team but now is independent. runs a similar codebase to PM but has some modern technologies like WebRTC and such. from what i can tell it seems to function fine as a modern browser, and although it's lacking in extensions/themes it has the necessities like adblock, userscripts, etc. i'd consider this as pretty independent from Google/Mozilla as far as functioning browsers go since the codebase is based on old Firefox.

>>

I've been using Tor Browser more than a decade with scripts disabled. You can do that nowadays by setting the default security level to "safest" through the shield icon in the browser bar. I don't really know what else is out there but this is what I use, and this is what I recommend everyone else to use as well.

>>
1000020471.jpg - 537.03 KB (850x1217)

>>1661 >>1662 Thanks for the insight hikarin. I agree that Firefox is generally the best bet to be usable on the modern web, but it's nice to dream about a less shitty version of the modern web sometimes. Sucks that Pale Moon threw away their credibility to be furry spergs. A bit unrelated, but do you have much experience with alternative webs? Things like Gopher, Gemini, Freenet, IPFS, etc? I like the idea of them and absolutely see the appeal but from my (limited) experience they're a bit too niche and often too limited to have much content. My idealistic cope fever dream is all the people of the "dissident web" (for lack of a better term) who use IRC and altchans and such to migrate off the clearweb into some sort of alternative internet protocol(s) but I know that will not happen. cry

>>

>>1666 I've been using gopher since before http took off. It's pretty nice. But hardly anyone hosts content on it. Freenet I've tried but I'm not really in a position to say whats on the network. Same for Gemini. Isn't Gemini the one that requires you load javashit and have to host the content of the pages you browse? I can't remember why but I stopped using it. I think it was because of pizza spam. IPFS I really like but the developers refuse to fix basic things about it like the fact that you have to store data in the datastore and on your local HDD. Meaning for every TB you give it you have to have 2TB. There is an option to prevent this but it has been broken for many years. Another big issue with IPFS is it really taxes your router/modem. I was running it for a week and it murdered my LAN. The router got so hot that it was shutting down due to the thousands of requests it was getting a second. The network is really unstable because of that. But I do like the idea in theory. The main issue with it is the developers and their attempts to turn it into yet another crypto scam instead of a real free encrypted network for data. They have many long time bugs they simply refuse to fix. Instead they've been courting big tech companies and trying to get them to use the software. They're going after the tech bro investment money instead of making something for everyone to use for free. Another big problem is new p2p protocols aren't taking off because users refuse to donate bandwidth+space. They're opting to use things like private torrent trackers instead. Which are stupid. I refuse to engage with those people because they're bad actors and don't follow the spirit of hacker ethics. They don't care about the data being free for everyone. All they care about is clout and money.

>>

>>1669 you're wrong hikarin, gemini is basically just postmodern gopher with markdown instead of gopher syntax... and mandatory encryption

>>

>>1669 >>1670 I think that Hikarin is thinking of Hyphanet (Formerly known as Freenet).
